Frequently Asked Questions
What makes disc golf at Lake Shastina different from other courses?
Lake Shastina offers a rare opportunity to play disc golf across the grounds of a full-scale golf resort rather than in a traditional park setting. The course is designed to follow the natural flow of wide fairways, open skies, and varied terrain, giving players more room to shape shots and experience the strategy of the game at a larger scale. This setting creates a pace and atmosphere that feels more like a round of golf, unhurried, scenic, and immersive, while still being approachable for players of all skill levels.
Do I need to reserve a time to play disc golf?
In most cases, players simply check in at the Pro Shop before starting their round. Our staff will help coordinate play so that everyone can enjoy the course comfortably alongside other resort activities. If you are visiting with a group or planning play during peak travel seasons, calling ahead is recommended to ensure the best experience.
Is the course suitable for beginners, or is it only for experienced players?
The layout is designed to be enjoyable for a wide range of abilities. Experienced players appreciate the length, shot variety, and thoughtful design, while newer players benefit from the open environment that allows them to learn the game without the tight obstacles common on wooded courses. Beginners are encouraged to play at their own pace and enjoy the setting as much as the scorecard.
How long does a typical round take?
Because the course spans a full golf property, rounds are typically more relaxed and may take longer than a quick park-style game. Many players spend a few hours completing all 9 holes, especially if they pause to take in the views of Mount Shasta or enjoy the resort amenities before or after their round. We recommend allowing extra time so you can fully enjoy the experience.
Can I combine disc golf with other activities at the resort?
Yes. One of the unique advantages of playing here is the ability to turn your round into a full-day or overnight visit. Guests often pair disc golf with dining at the Sunset Grill, traditional golf, or a stay in our on-site accommodations. The resort setting makes it easy to transition from recreation to relaxation without leaving the property.
Is this a good stop for travelers visiting the Mount Shasta area?
Absolutely. Lake Shastina is conveniently located for those exploring Northern California and the Mount Shasta region. Many visitors include a round of disc golf as part of a larger itinerary that may involve hiking, sightseeing, or simply enjoying the natural beauty of Siskiyou County. The course provides a memorable outdoor activity that complements the area’s scenic character.
What should I bring for my round?
Players should bring their discs, comfortable walking shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing. The open landscape means conditions can vary throughout the day, so being prepared for sun or wind helps ensure a pleasant round. If you have questions upon arrival, our Pro Shop team is happy to assist.
